Whale Watching

Join an unforgettable whale-watching voyage in Northern Norway!

From late October, the fjords of Northern Norway turn into a fascinating natural spectacle. Vast schools of herring, stretching for kilometres, attract orcas and majestic humpback whales.

Experiences awaiting you

  • Observe orcas and humpback whales from the comfort of the Nonoah’s deck — a front-row seat to nature at its finest.
  • Guided snorkelling with a local dive centre — full equipment included and a professional dive master by your side.
  • The possibility to anchor deep inside fjords, far from civilisation, and watch the Northern Lights from the comfort of the cosy saloon.
  • Listening to whale communication through a sensitive scientific hydrophone — broadcast directly through the saloon speakers.
  • Adventures and excursions in the heart of the Arctic.

Trip plan

We will tailor the itinerary to the current whale activity — and, upon request, to your wishes.

One of Nonoah’s greatest advantages is her independence from shore facilities — we anchor right where the whales are. In recent years, herring shoals have shifted as far as Alta, which means multi-day circular voyages starting and ending in Skjervøy are possible.

For snorkelling, you can choose between two options:

  1. Choose a voyage where a certified rescue diver is on board — giving you the opportunity to snorkel directly from Nonoah.
  2. Reserve a day for snorkelling with local operators (Lofoten Opplevelser a.s.  or Whale2sea), who offer 3–4 hour trips on fast RIB boats. Advance booking required.

Transport

We usually depart from Skjervøy or Alta.

By air: The best flight connections are to Tromsø or Alta. From Tromsø, you can reach Skjervøy by local express ferry (approx. 2.5 hrs) or by bus (approx. 3.5 hrs). Some crews prefer to rent a car at the airport and drive instead.

By car: You can turn the journey into a road trip and drive from the Czech Republic to northern Norway. With non-stop driving, the trip can be completed in around 40 hours.
